'Poem to Song' with Chamber Music Quad Cities

Another concert cancelled last year is back on the schedule!

I cannot wait to head home for my debut with Chamber Music Quad Cities. I’ll be singing with esteemed pianist and co-founder of CMQC, Thomas Sauer. Read more below!

Seven poets, nine composers: CMQC has commissioned nine composers to set to music poems submitted by Quad-City-area poets. On this special evening in March, poets Audra Kerr Brown, Joe Chambers, Therese Guise, Carl Herzig, Farah Marklevits, Beth Roberts, and Johnnie Woods will be present to read their poems aloud; each reading will be followed by a newly composed song using that poem as text. Composers include Jacob Bancks (Augustana College), Brian Baxter (QC Symphony), William Campbell (St. Ambrose University), as well as Patrick Castillo, Monica Gil, Robinson McClellan, Thomas Sauer, Nathan Shields, and Suzanne Sorkin. Join us for an evening exploring the alchemy of words and music.Thomas and the CMQC commissioned new art songs from seven contemporary composers and all of these new songs feature poetry chosen from . All of the poetry chosen for the songs is also commissioned, as the CMQC called for submissions of works by Iowan poets. The concert is a celebration of Iowa, its great poets, and of the composers who wrote these beautiful new art songs.
